5 Easy Tips To Help You Get The Perfect Logo Design

Recent studies have revealed that consumers (no matter their age) have a tendency to connect with the businesses if they have meaningful and eye catching logo design. Rather than remembering the name of the company, it is always easier to remember the company with their logos or taglines.

So if you want to provide a new look and image to your existing or upcoming business then the first thing you need is a perfect logo design.

You should keep in mind that designing a logo for any company is not an easy job, it needs time, patience, creativity, ability to understand and unlimited efforts to finalize the design. we want to make it easy for you, that's why we put together the 5 best practices when getting the perfect logo design:

  • 1- A logo doesn't have to be a literal description of what our company does.Dentist logos don't need to show teeth, ice cream businesses logos don't need to show an ice cream. The Mercedes logo isn't a car, neither the Apple logo is not a computer.
  • 2- Kiss (keep it simple and straightforward)A simple logo design allows for easy recognition and allows the logo to be versatile and memorable. I personally recommend a minimalistic logo design.
  • 3- Work in black and white firstFocus on the idea first, then you can add some eye catching colors or colors related to your industry.
  • 4- Ask yourself some questionsYou need to be clear about you logo's purpose, and the only way you can do that is by answering this questions:* What are your goals and why?*What product or service does your business offer?*Who is your target audience and who is your most ideal customer?*Who are your competitors and how do you differ from them?
*What was the idea behind the business name?
  • 5. Learn from othersThere is no need to reinvent the wheel, Learn from the best companies, from their mistakes and triumphs. Those big companies spend big budgets testing what works and what doesn't, and the final design you see is the result of multiple testing.

Time for conclusions:

A logo design has an extensive process behind it, so make sure your agency follows this 5 basic steps in order to get the perfect logo design for your company. Don't let them fool you and always ask questions about the process they are following, get involve, afterall, that logo will be your company's image FOR EVER.

3 Essential Ingredients For The Perfect Logo Design

If I say “McDonalds” what’s the first thing that comes to your mind???

Some friesApple logo design probably?
And if I say “Apple” I’m sure you know I’m not talking about a fruit, instead, the first thing your mind pictures is an iPod, iPhone or iPad.
That’s called BRANDING my friends...

Branding is what differentiates a local grocery store from “Walmart”, “Dr. Pepper” from “Coca-Cola”. But in order to understand what’s branding, we have to know what a brand is...
A brand is the image of a specific product or service that consumers connect with, identifying the name, logo, or slogan of the company who owns the image.

Big companies understand branding and consumer behavior so well that they take it to the next level making their products appealing to our senses.
So if you want your business to continue to perform well, you need to pay close attention to your branding strategy and in order to do that you have start by  analyzing the basics.
As promised, here are the 3 basic components of a perfect branding formula:

1- Logo

The logo design is often the first visual impression that someone has of your business, before a potential client even walks through your door, your logo is the very first impression they get form your products or services.
That’s why having a professional logo design is extremely important, a cheap logo design is not the best solution for your company.

2- Tagline

In simple words, a tagline is your brand’s promise in a sticky and  memorable way.
It communicates your business purpose to the people, a catchy tagline can also be viral, creating social engagement and remembrance.
Let’s do an exercise, I’ll put some of the most famous taglines and you match it with the company.

a-) Think Different.
b-) Connecting people.
c-) Think outside the bun.
d-) Can you hear me now?...Good!
e-) Always low prices. Always.
f-) I‘m loving it.

I’m sure you were able to recognize at least 50% of these taglines,
(unless you live in another planet of course)

3- Know what your purpose is.

If you know your purpose, and you communicate it through clear branding, then people will know what to expect from you.
for that you need to ask yourself these questions.
-Who’s my potential buyer?
-What are their problems?
-How can my product help them solve their pain points?
Once you have those answers, you’ll be able to determine your purpose.
Having a clear purpose will give you one clear direction

Time for conclusions:

3 ingredients:  purpose,  tagline and a professional logo design, are essential for creating a brand that is memorable and easily identifiable.

Now the  question is: What's next?

Pros and Cons of a Cheap Logo Design

These days, any business owner can get a cheap logo design online.

Simply answer a couple of questions, pay $19 and a week later you’ll have dozens of concepts to choose from.
Unfortunately, most of those concepts could be a waste of time and money.

That's because design agencies ignore what your business is about, and to be honest, they don't really care. They just want to produce dozens of logos with no thought about the purpose behind the logo.

Another disadvantage of working with this type of agencies is that nothing is left to the imagination, therefore you'll get the most obvious design. For instance, if you’re in the veterinary industry you’ll get a drawing of a dog and a cat together or if you’re in the ice cream business, it’ll be an ice cream cone.

Logos are supposed to be symbolic not literal descriptions of your product, they should be designed specifically for your company. Just like McDonalds, you don't see a burger on their logo, do you?

Now that I've showed you the dark side of cheap designs, here's a helpful list of things you should keep in mind when working with any agency on your company's image, and one real example of a logo design process:

  • Make sure they have plenty of information about what your company does, it's goals and it's target audience. Provide them the information if necessary.
  • The logo needs to be original - not copied from another company or draft.
  • The research – find out who the company’s main competitors are and how they present themselves.
  • Your logo is the starting point of the whole corporate image - it'll be on your business cards, emails, uniforms, etc.
  • Most Important, a logo should reflect the time and thought gone into designing it.

Our Success Story "Millionaire Cupcakes"

In November 2012 The Logo Boutique was awarded with a Silver Davey Award for the logo design "Millionaire cupcakes "

What’s so special about this logo???

This awesome logo design has raised the bar for the cupcake industry, due to the fact that it doesn’t use mainstream colors like pink and brown, very common on this type of logos.
Instead, it reflects an elegant and minimalistic design, using a monochromatic and sober color scheme.
Another great thing to point out is the use of  a diamond as the cupcake itself, representing the value and uniqueness of this product.

Clearly, this logo is aiming for high end customers and events.
Here's what the designer had to say about working on this project:

"When I got the design brief, I automatically knew it had a big potential. Millionaire Cupcakes bakes liquor infused cupcakes for a high-end clientele, We designed the logo so it would look like a very elegant and expensive product, replacing the cake and frosting for a diamond.".

-Fabianna Diaz, Art Director-

Time for Conclusions!

As you can see, every aspect was taken into consideration on the design process, which is the key for a successful design. No wonder why this logo is an AWARD WINNING DESIGN!

After analyzing how painful a cheap logo design can be and the great example of a design process, is time for some conclusions

  1. A cheap logo design might not be the right option for you, if the designer doesn't guarantee an analytic process on your goals and needs.
  2. Logos are what sticks in people’s mind, So make sure you stick the right image.
  3. Is not about paying $1,000 for a logo design, you can pay $99 and ensure you're in good hands.
  4. You'll get what you pay for...

Great Logo review!

The Logo Boutique worked with me with the same level of enthusiasm throughout this project which went way over the expected time-largely due to my requests and changes. They were very patient and possessed the expertise to deliver what I needed. I loved their client management system and I was able to have my friends vote in and share in the process. They really enjoyed it. The contractor displayed humility and professional courtesy throughout. ”
